Nelson Mandela, Harriet Tubman, And Patrisse Cullors

Civil Rights- noun: the rights of citizens to political and social freedom and equality. Nelson Mandela, Harriet Tubman, and Patrisse Cullors all share one common trait: civil rights and protecting the freedom of others. Nelson Mandela fought for freedom against the apartheid in South Africa, and was a philanthropist who served as President in South Africa. Harriet Tubman was abolitionist, armed scout and spy, who helped hundreds of slaves escape through the Underground Railroad during the Civil War. Patrisse Cullors is an activist and artist who co-founded of Black Lives Matter, an organization which campaigns against violence and systematic racial discrimination against black people. In fact, the text states â€Å"Nelson Mandela never wavered in his devotion to democra cy, equality and learning. Despite terrible provocation, he never answered racism with racism. His life is an inspiration to all who are oppressed and deprived; and to all who are opposed to oppression and deprivation† (Nelson Mandela Foundation â€Å"Biography of Nelson Mandela.† Nelsonmandela.org). Mandela’s efforts to fight for social justice were never broken and he stayed true to his goals of kindness and peace through his work. Nelson Mandela will forever be a true source of peace, and a model of fighting for social justice and civil rights everywhere. Another important figure who fought for civil rights was Harriet Tubman, who helped slaves on plantations during the civil war era escape through the underground railroad, and was an abolitionist who became an icon of freedom. According to a History Club of Graduates from the University of Massachusetts, it states, â€Å"â€Å"Harriet Tubman is an American hero and an icon of freedom, a five-foot-tall Afric an American abolitionist who guided hundreds of slaves away from the bondage of slavery.
